Poppies captures a more intimate view of a summer meadow, with bright red and coral poppies rising through a sea of soft, fresh greens. The loose, expressive brushwork gives the flowers a natural, almost carefree quality, while the pale blue sky and distant landscape create a lovely feeling of space behind them. I particularly like the way some of the poppies are only loosely suggested, with the unopened buds and grasses adding movement and texture. It feels like a warm summer day, standing amongst the wildflowers and looking out across the countryside.
